13Mar08

Nicole (6B): 5.5 / 12 = 46%

You need to try again. (1) Pay attention to the order of the words: In an affirmative or negative sentence it's Subject + Verb NOT Verb + Subject. (2) The verb in the beginning (= começo) of a question is the verb in the short answer (Does he like...? Yes, he does. / Are they...? No, they aren't.) I hope this helps.

Congratulations for doing the exercise!  :-)

Catarina (6B): 5.3/12 = 44%

You can try again. You will have (= terás) a better score (= pontuação melhor) if you answer all (= responderes a todas) the questions. You missed (= falhaste) 4 answers. (1) No the before names of people. (2) Remember the s in the S. Present with he, she , it (he plays).

Congratulations for doing the exercise!  :-)

14Mar08

Marta (6B): 10/12 = 83%

Marta, you did very well. Feedback/Explanations about my correction: (1) In the "Who are they?" question I was looking for their names, their identification, so I gave you half the points when you answered "They are friends". (2) In the "What nationality is he?" question the answer is "He" and not "It". (3) In the "Does Daisy know Tom?" question, it's "No...." at the beginning of the dialogue, because she only met him (= o conheceu) during this conversation.

Good work!  :-)

16Mar08

Cláudia (6A):  8/12 = 67%

Claúdia, (1) pay attention to the verb in the question and if it's singular or plural (... are there? It's...). (2) The expression "What's Tom like?" means "How is Tom?". "Is" is the verb form in the question, so... use "is" in the answer, not "likes". (3) Pay attention to the subject in the question: "Tom" is not "it". (4) Always remember the "s" in the S. Present, 3rd person singular. You only missed one.

I'm sure you can improve your score.   :-)

17Mar08

Ana Margarida (6B): 10/12 = 83%

Margarida, (1) in question 4 there is an "or" (at home or at school), so the answer must be complete, NOT "yes/no". (2) Nationalities are with a Capital letter (American), but I didn't take out (= retirar) any points. (3) In the "Does Daisy know Tom?" question, it's "No...." answer, because she only met him (= o conheceu) during this conversation. I admit this is a dubious question.

Good job! Keep it up!

You sang very well in the school karaoke competition. Congratulations! :-))  Did you read my post in the Have Fun with English! 3 blog? Please go there.

20Mar08

Joana (6A): 11.5/12 = 96%

Congratulations, Joana! Way to go! Keep on practicing!!!

25Mar08

Cláudia (6A): 7.9/12 = 66%

Feedback:  (1) In answer #1 you wrote Are there instead of There are. It's affirmative, not interrogative. (2) In #2 it's Who are they? not "Who are they with?" (3) In #5 the question is What's Tom like? You need is in he answer, not "like", because "like" isn't a verb in this case. (4) #6: Nationalities are with a CAPITAL letter (American, not american). (5) In answers # 7 and 8 you forgot the s in the 3rd person singular (He plays not "he play". (6) In answer #10 you forgot the verb form is ("Tom is in a hurry", not "Tom in a hurry..."). (7) You didn't answer #12.

Cláudia, move on to other tests and keep on practicing. You'll improve, I'm sure. Hugs from your English teacher.

3Apr08

Tiago (6B): 9.6/12 = 80%

Feedback: (1) In answer #3 you write "Daisy like's Tom". There is no apostrophe (') in the S. Present, 3rd person singular. (2) Nationalities have a capital letter, so in answer #6 it is "Tom is American", not "american". (3) There is an "s" in the S. Present 3rd person singular, so in answer #8 you write "Mark usually plays...", not "play". (4) Daisy does not know Tom before this conversation, so in answer #10 it's "No, she doesn't". (5) In answer #12 it's "Because Tom is cool" or "Because she likes Tom" or "Because she met Tom".

9Apr08

Ricardo (6A): 12/12 = 100%

Fabulous! Congratulations!! Way to go!!! (= É assim mesmo!!!)   :-)

10Apr08

Omelian (6B): 7.6/12 = 63%

Feedback: (1) Your answer #1 is incomplete: no subject and verb (There are...). (2) You have the same problem in answer #2 (They are...). (3) Question #3 starts with "Are" and you gave a short answer with "do". (4) Question #5 is "What's Tom like?" (= Como é o Tom?). You confused this "like" with the verb "like". (5) Nationalities are with a Capital letter (= letra Maiúscula): American, not american. (6) "He plays basketball", not "He plays the basketball". (7)

Good work, Omelian! Keep it up! (= Continue!)   :-)

Cláudia (6A): 8.9/12 = 74%

Feedback: Answer #3 is "Yes, they are", not "No, they aren't" because Daisy and Mark are friends. (2) In answers #7 & 8 you forgot the "s" in the 3rd persons singular. It's "He plays...", not "He play...". (3) In answer #10 you forgot the subject and the verb. It's "Because he is late for basketball", not "Because late for basketball". (4) You didn't complete answer #12. There's nothing after "... because". You also said "She does like basketball now", but you should say "She likes basketball now".

You improved, Cláudia, but you could do better if you paid attention to small details.  :-)

17Apr08

Bernardo (6B): 1.7/12 = 14%

Feedback: (1) Answer #3 is "Yes, they are friends", not "Yes são friends". (2) Question #5 asks "What's Tom like?" It means "Como é o Tom?", not "what he likes (= o que ele gosta)". (3) Answer #6 is "Tom is American", not "nationality is Tom Inglech". (4) A "No" in answer #4 is very incomplete. You need to say "No, she doesn't". (5) In answer #10 you can't say "No" to a question with "Why...?". You need to start with "Because...". (5) The same happens (= acontece) in answer #12.

Bernardo, you need to study and practice a lot.

27May08

Luan (6B): 6.6/12 = 55%

Feedback: (1) In answer 1 there is no verb and preposition: "There are three persons in the dialogue", not "There three persons the dialogue". (2) Answer 3 is "Yes, they are", not "Yes, are they". (3) You have the same problem in answer 4. It's "They are at school", not "Are they at school". (4) Question 5 is "What's Tom like?" (= Como é o Tom?"), not "What does Tom like?" (= De que gosta o Tom?). (5) Answer 6: "Tom is American", not "Tom is English". (6) In answer 7 you have no "s" in the verb. It's "He plays basketball", not "He play basketball". (7) Answer 10 is "Because he is late for basketball", not "Because he late basketball".

Gustavo (6B): 7.7/14 = 55%

Feedback: (1) In answer #1 it's "No, they don't", not just (= apenas) "No". (2) In answer #3 "Robert loves football", not "Joe". (3) In answer #4 it's "Yes, he goes to a lot of matches" not "match". (4) In answer #5 the subject is "he" not "you". (5) In answer #6 it's "He watches basketball games on TV" not "He watch television". (6) In answer #7 "Darren" is correct, but it's an incomplete answer. (7) In answer #8 it's "He talks to John", not only (= não apenas) "with John". It's incomplete. (8) In answer #9 it's "Yes, he is", not just "Yes". It's incomplete. (9) In answer #11 it's "Because she has...", not "Because she have...". (10) Your answer #12 is very incomplete.
